Believe it or not, clowns are begging America to quit calling President Trump a clown—and I second their motion.

Clowns provide a benefit to the world by making people laugh and spreading joy. They also maintain professionalism and ensure that their performances are suitable for all ages. They avoid crude jokes, offensive gestures, risky performances, and content that could be disrespectful to any group, according to CareerExplorer.

So, here are 20 things Trump will do that a clown would not:

1. Clowns would never insult veterans, prisoners of war, or Gold Star parents.
2. Clowns would never refer to the media as “the enemy of the people.”
3. Clowns would not call Mexicans rapists, thugs, or gang members.
4. Clowns would never refer to Muslims as terrorists.
5. Clowns would not refer to African nations as “shithole countries.”
6. Clowns would not tell foreign students to go back home because they oppose genocide.
7. Clowns would not condone rounding up and deporting innocent people, including Americans.
8. Clowns would not make disparaging remarks about Jews, Muslims, or immigrants.
9. Clowns would never claim that Haitian immigrants eat cats and dogs just to get people to laugh.
10. Clowns would never make crude comments about grabbing women by their private parts.
11. Clowns would not threaten to take other countries by force.
12. Clowns would not intentionally bomb schoolchildren.
13. Clowns would not pay for 2,000-pound bombs to be dropped on children and innocent people in Gaza.
14. Clowns would not pay for Israelis’ healthcare and education and then tell their own children, “You’re on your own!”
15. Clowns would not engage in inappropriate and offensive behavior. Trump will.
16. Clowns would not threaten to bomb Oman over its deal with Iran concerning the Strait of Hormuz. Trump will.
17. A clown would not miss the transfer of U.S. soldiers killed abroad because he had a golf game to attend. Trump did.
18. Clowns would not make fun of people who are suffering or turn human misery into a political punchline.
19. Clowns would not use their power to frighten children. They would use their humor to make those children feel just a little happier, even if only for a few minutes.
20. Clowns would not deliberately traumatize children with airstrikes. They would try to make those traumatized children feel just a little bit happier, if only for a few minutes.

So, the next time someone calls Trump a clown, perhaps we should apologize to the clowns.

They deserve better.
